Frequently Asked Questions
About Our Books
Specialized books such as ours that are made by hand do not have the strict uniformity of a machine made product. There will be variances and artifacts of the human hand amongst them; this is what makes them valuable. We have a rigorous quality assurance process to vet damage or defect that does not meet our standard of execution.
We do not offer a rights system. Métier’s priority is to make books that will be loved, we do not want to incentivize collectors to buy books they may not have otherwise. We do believe in building relationships and rewarding loyalty. If you would like to request a hold on a forthcoming release please reach out and introduce yourself.
We’re delighted to offer this unique design detail for our inaugural title. It has required an enormous investment, not just in the painstaking amount of time required to paint each individual cover by hand, but in the creation of a process best suited for a book application.
We began with the selection of the bookcloth itself. After a rigorous battery of tests across a wide variety of materials, textures, and suppliers, we chose two cloths that met our criteria of both a high quality appearance and a medium well-suited for paint.
Ultimately we landed on a German cloth specifically designed to take ink and paint for the Numbered books, and a high-quality all natural linen cloth for our Lettered edition, a painter's material of choice for centuries. Both editions use a paint mixed with a medium specifically formulated to promote longevity.
Like any material wear will be inevitable with use and time. Be it vintage car or Swiss watch, there are some who prefer the character of patina, while others favor keeping their cherished goods out of harm’s way. For those in the latter camp, we have included a glassine wrap for the books as an added measure, particularly for repeated removal from the slipcase.
Shipping & Returns
We accept returns on any book that is damaged or defective provided that you contact us within seven days of receipt of the order. Please provide photos of the issue and wait for our instructions before shipping an approved return.
We must receive the damaged or defective book in unused condition and in the original packaging before a replacement can be provided or refund is issued. We will assume the cost of shipping once the issue has been validated.
We take pre-orders in advance with estimated completion and ship dates. We go to great lengths to meet those projections, but delays are possible due to the complicated nature of our production process.
We do accept international orders, and in addition of North America, are currently able to ship to most of Europe. If you are interested in purchasing one of our books but are in a country outside of the default shipping options, please feel free to contact us directly and we will make every effort to accommodate, as well as note the interest for future consideration.
Different jurisdictions have varying laws regarding the import of books. We make every effort to minimize these costs, but depending on where you live you may have to pay additional fees. These are not shipping costs and are the sole responsibility of the collector.
